Ian Harte

A nephew of United's talented right-back Gary Kelly, it
was a remarkable 1996 for Ian as a first team
breakthrough last term at Leeds was swiftly followed
by no less than four full caps for Eire. Ian has a strong
left foot, and his best position is arguably left
wing-back, but as with a number of the younger
players at the club Ian has fulfilled a variety of roles
during his progress to the first team. Initially Ian found
it difficult to settle in England but must be glad he was
persuaded to persevere as his 1996 debut as a sub for
Mick McCarthy's full Eire side against Croatia was
followed up with three further full caps and a first goal
for his country as further outings followed in a more
defensive role against Holland, Mexico and Bolivia; it
all signals a bright international future for the talented
teenager.
